Optional English Grade XI is a coursebook prepared with the spirit of the optional English Curriculum of grade XI, developed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Curriculum  Development Centre.  

The book includes seven units but in this section of the guide, we have organized all the literature part of the NEB English for grade - 11. Unit One is about a historical survey of the English language and literature. Unit Two is about an introduction to language and linguistics. These two units are followed by some questions, both short and long, for checking the understanding of the concepts. Units Three, Four, Five, Six, and Seven include stories, poems, essays, one-act plays, and the novel respectively. Moreover, it includes A Glossary of Literary Questions. 

Units 1 and 2 are about theoretical concepts of English literature, language, and linguistics. Teachers can explain the concepts of each topic along with the discussion in the class.  

Units 3 to 7 include stories, poems, essays, one-act plays, and novels. Each reading text under each unit is followed by Glossary Questions for practice. There are four kinds of questions: Understanding the Text, Reference to the Context, Literary Analysis, and Reference beyond the Text.
